Position Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Grant Writer who will be
responsible for the full lifecycle of grant proposal development, including conducting needs assessments, research, collaborating with subject matter experts, and preparing compelling proposals in response to funding opportunities from local, state, and federal government agencies, as well as foundation and corporate sources. The ideal candidate will possess outstanding writing skills, be adept at managing multiple projects with varying deadlines, and bring experience in public sector or municipal grants. Bonus points for those with technology commercialization experience. Our ideal candidate will have a strong background in writing grant and/or research proposals. You will work closely with our clients to craft compelling narratives, translate technical innovations into clear, actionable proposals, and ensure alignment between client goals and objectives with grant requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Research and Analysis: Identify and evaluate grant opportunities aligned with organizational priorities and client needs.
- Proposal Development: Write and edit high-quality, tailored grant proposals, concept papers, letters of intent, applications, narratives, and supporting documents that meet funder requirements and guidelines.
- Collaboration: Work closely with project managers, program staff, finance/budget specialists, and subject matter experts to gather required information and supporting documentation.
- Compliance: Ensure all proposals, applications, and reports meet eligibility requirements, submission guidelines, deadlines, and compliance standards outlined in RFPs or by funding agencies.
- Budget Coordination: Collaborate with finance and program teams to develop, review, and ensure accuracy of project or program budgets within grant proposals.
- Project Management: Manage multiple assignments simultaneously, maintain timely and consistent communication with stakeholders, and track all deadlines from inception through final submission.
- Reporting: Prepare grant progress, evaluation, and final reports as required; support post-award grant administration as requested.
- Continuous Improvement: Monitor and integrate trends, best practices, and changes in the grants landscape to maximize funding success.
- Document Management: Organize and maintain a library of boilerplate language, organizational documents, and standard attachments.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Public Administration, Nonprofit Management, or related field (Master’s preferred).
- Minimum 3–5 years of demonstrated experience in grant writing—preferably for public sector, nonprofit, or municipal agencies.
- Proven success securing local, state, or federal funding, with portfolio and references available upon request.
- Exceptional writing, editing, and analytical skills, with strong attention to detail and quality.
- Advanced ability to synthesize complex information and present it in clear, structured, and persuasive language.
- Strong organizational, project management, and interpersonal skills.
- Familiarity with government grant processes, including proposal development, compliance, and reporting.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), and comfortable with digital submission portals (e.g., Grants.gov, state/local equivalents).
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced degree (Master's or PhD) in science, engineering, or other relevant field.
- Strong understanding of technology commercialization, including market readiness, innovation, and scaling.
- Experience with budgeting for grant proposals and understanding of basic nonprofit or public finance.
- Working knowledge of federal and state compliance standards (e.g., uniform guidance, OMB circulars).
- Experience with client or stakeholder-facing communication in a consultancy environment.
- Familiarity with RFP/RFQ processes and requirements for multiple government entities.
